East Sussex
 

East Sussex is a county located in the south east of England. The county covers a total area of 692 square miles and has an approximate population of 800,000.

East Sussex borders Kent, West Sussex and Surrey and is split into rapes or districts including Lewes, Eastbourne, Rother, Hastings, Brighton and Hove, and Wealden. Lewes is the county town.

East Sussex is well known for its historical attractions including Camber Castle, where you can experience the ruins of a fort built by Henry VIII. Another popular historical attraction is visiting Battle, near Hastings, where the famous Battle of Hastings was fought in 1066, ending in victory for William the Conqueror. 

East Sussex also boasts a range of cultural attractions, such as the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne which displays a collection of 19th and 20th century art.

East Sussex contains part of the South Downs National Park, including Windover Hill, where the Long Man of Wilmington can be found.

Famous people from East Sussex include Simon Cowell, who was born in Brighton. He is a famous music mogul and judge on television’s The X- factor. Other famous residents include Lesley Manville (actress), Sean Ellis (writer) and Norman Cook (DJ Fatboy Slim). Famous novelist Virginia Woolfe also lived in East Sussex having moved there from London.
